**Job Description:** Safety Technician **Reports to:** Safety Manager **Position Overview:** As a Safety Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure working environment within our processing plant. Your responsibilities will include actively monitoring and addressing potential hazards, conducting inspections, and collaborating with various departments to ensure adherence to safety protocols. The role involves a hands-on approach on the floor, requiring the ability to navigate and assess working conditions in real-time. **_On-Floor Inspections:_** Perform regular walk-around inspections on the plant floor to observe critical checkpoints and identify potential safety hazards. **_Audits and Inspections:_** Conduct thorough audits and inspections, coordinating with relevant teams to resolve issues and eliminate unsafe conditions and/or unsafe behavior promptly. **_Equipment Safety_** **:** Monitor the safe operation of equipment on the floor against the standard operating procedure, identify and address any concerns promptly to ensure a secure working environment. Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure safety work ordered are completed in a timely manner. **_Hazard Identification_** : Actively identify and assess potential hazards within the facility, implementing effective strategies to reduce risks. **_Committee Participation:_** Attend and actively participate in safety committee meetings and accident review committee meetings, contributing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement. **_Communication:_** Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills in English, effectively communicating safety concerns and updates to management and floor personnel. **_Floor Navigation:_** Navigate the plant environment proficiently to identify unsafe working conditions and practices, taking immediate actions to maintain a safe working environment. **_Supervision:_** Work effectively with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and proactive measures to enhance safety protocols. **_Documentation:_** Maintain accurate and legible documentation of all assigned responsibilities, ensuring a comprehensive record of safety-related activities. **_Physical Requirements_** : Ability to climb stairs and elevated stands or platforms, occasionally lift up to 40 lbs, and work in variable temperatures and noise environments. **Job Responsibilities** 1. Perform walk around inspections to observe critical check points to ensure safety. 2. Conduct audits, inspections and coordinate resolution of issues and elimination of unsafe conditions. 3. Ensure equipment is operating safely. 4. Identify potential hazards within the facility. 5. Determine ways of reducing risks. 6. Attend and participate in the safety committee meetings and the accident review committee meetings. 7. Perform other duties as assigned. **Minimum Qualifications** * Be able to work in a processing plant environment including variable temperatures and exposure to noise. * Required to navigate plant environment to identify unsafe working conditions and practices and maintain safe working conditions. * Ability to climb stairs and elevated stands or platforms. * Good written and verbal communication skills in English and be able to communicate with management. * Ability to work with minimal supervision. * Possess basic math skills. * Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasional basis. * Must be able to maintain accurate and legible documentation of all assigned responsibilities. * No performance work actions in the last 6 months * No attendance work actions in the last 6 months * Computer skills- including Excel, Microsoft word and at least basic knowledge of the programs * Must be able to track data and pull reports * Bi-lingual skills required depending on the language needs of the workforce. **Preferred Qualifications** * Thorough knowledge of plant departments. * HS diploma or equivalent. **Please call us at 507-332-5338 for more information!** At Jennie-O Turkey Store we invite difference and diversity in all aspects.
