This position is responsible for executing excellence in sample processing and comminution techniques in a high-volume, fast-paced commercial lab. Sample preparation is the first stage of the sample life cycle and it is crucial that all steps (processing, aliquoting, labeling, and storage) are completed correctly to ensure the accuracy of lab testing.
Responsibilities
+ Follow preparation techniques for the processing of samples for lab testing, including the use of grinding mills and other comminution techniques (i.e. blenders, Magic Bullet grinders, liquid nitrogen).
+ Ensure accurate labeling of sample cups with assigned unique identifiers.
+ Record sample preparation techniques and delivery details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software.
+ Maintain organization structure of samples by accurately delivering and disposing of samples as necessary.
+ Execute submission requests through third-party labs by logging samples and preparing them for shipment.
+ Follow all lab safety and quality requirements and procedures (i.e. PPE, GMP, OSHA, ISO).
+ File documentation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), perform data entry, and communicate timelines for testing results.
+ Conduct general lab upkeep including ordering and stocking lab supplies, cleaning, and equipment maintenance.
+ Perform titrations/dilutions as needed for sample preparation.
Essential Skills
+ 4-year degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related scientific degree.
+ Minimum of 6 months of industry lab experience working in a regulated lab environment (preference for food/agriculture/nutrition/plant science).
+ Proficiency in sample preparation, LIMS, and data entry.
+ Good communication skills in a team atmosphere.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in hospital lab work, cosmetics, chemical, medical device settings is also considered.
+ Comfortable working in an environment with repetitive sample preparation and noise from blenders.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position on the 1st shift, working 37.5-40 hours per week. Core hours will be between either 9am-5pm or 7am-3pm, rotating during the week based on needs. The role requires wearing required PPE (i.e. face shields, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, OSHA-approved safety glasses, laboratory coat). The lab is located in the JFB technical center in Golden Valley, supporting sample handling and distribution to the analytical lab for testing of food samples. The team consists of roughly 10-15 members working in the lab prep area. There are core summer hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day, where employees typically work shorter days on Fridays and longer days Monday through Thursday.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00
