Job Description
As a Sample Technician, you will be responsible for connecting with customers, taking requests, answering phones, and scheduling shipments. You will handle tasks such as packing and unpacking samples, assisting in the lab, and maintaining accurate records. You will also ensure that samples are properly preserved, labeled, and entered into the system following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, you will assist with cleaning glassware, sorting bottles, and maintaining a cooperative working relationship with other employees.
ResponsibilitiesConnect with customers, take requests, answer phones, and schedule shipmentsPack samples in boxes or coolers following SOPsLift heavy coolers and boxes with the assistance of coworkersUnpack shipments of samples or bottlesAssist the lab with cleaning glasswareSort bottles and put them away in correct shelves or storage areasPreserve bottles by adding the correct amount and chemical according to SOPsLabel bottles with correct sample types and IDsEnter data and maintain recordsReceive samples for analysis and enter all pertinent information in the computer systemProperly handle and distribute samples for testingUnderstand and follow Quality System documents relevant to responsibilitiesHandle samples according to instructions received from clientsOperate standard office equipment including computers and copiersWork interactively with the technical staff to ensure clients’ expectations are metGenerate reports for daily department sample schedules and shipping listsAssemble samples for analyses and delivery to other laboratory locationsMaintain neat and accurate records of samples shipped to other laboratoriesMaintain files of information received with samplesCommunicate clearly orally and in writing to co-workersExhibit proficient typing ability, accuracy, and speedEssential SkillsProficiency in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Microsoft Office skillsStrong communication and people skillsAbility and willingness to lift 80lb coolers with assistanceUnderstanding of different sample types and protocolsAbility to follow directions in SOPsExperience communicating with customers and comfort with answering phonesPunctuality and readiness to work at 8amAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma requiredExperience in inventory managementProficiency in preparing sample kitsAbility to learn and handle a large amount of informationWork Environment
You will work Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm, with a one-hour lunch break and occasional need to stay late to ensure all shipments are out for the day. This is not a desk job; you will be up and walking around most of the time, helping customers, packing, cleaning, and preparing bottles and kits with chemicals. The role involves lifting and moving heavy coolers and boxes. Training is hands-on, involving shadowing and immediate engagement in tasks due to the busy nature of the environment. It may take up to a year to learn all the ins and outs of the role.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00
