Sanitation Scientist
Overview The role, under the supervision of senior SME, residing within the Food Safety Center of Excellence (FSCoE), will support the design, deployment, and execution of PepsiCo food safety programs (which include sanitation, hygienic design, food safety plan/HACCP, pathogen environmental monitoring, water reuse, etc.), help resolve sanitation and food safety challenges facing supply chain and R&D, and also provide consulting services to other regions. This role will also allow the company to react to existing or emerging food safety requirements in a timely and holistic fashion. Responsibilities This Global Food Safety R&D Scientist in the Sanitation Authority Team will: Support Global Food Safety strategy with the deployment of the Global Sanitation Standard within NA. Provide SME direction on the principles of contamination, sanitation chemicals, sanitation equipment, and hygienic design. Support hazard and contaminant control through existing sanitation programs and global manuals. Work with Product Developers and Engineering functions to support the assessment of new production equipment designs, sanitation chemistry and methods, and process validation. Ensure accurate documentation of test goals and objectives, test design, and testing procedures. Summarize results, interpret, make recommendations, and present results cross-functionally.  Deliver recommendations based on the data to impact business decisions and influence the business agenda. Collaborate across the Food Safety Center of Excellence to explore new capabilities which maximize productivity, increase agility, and drive new insights while sharing learnings across the broader organization. Provide support to plants to close regulatory gaps (if any) in a timely fashion to ensure regulatory compliance. Improve, deploy, and execute PepsiCo sanitation, hygienic design, food safety programs. Provide food safety SME support to R&D, Supply Chain stakeholders for safe, stable, and legal production. Assess sanitation/food safety gaps at plants and develop proposals and strategies of executing recommended process, program, and procedural improvements to support the mitigation and control of hazards and contaminants, through consultation of existing food safety program and global manuals. Apply risk assessment to various scenarios to come up with proper strategy to control the risk. Collaborate with sector functional teams to drive Winning with Purpose and our Faster, Stronger, Better agendas related to food safety. The individual may also support the food safety in sustainability initiatives (water and packaging material re-use) against food safety standards. Ability to travel to field locations up to 50%. Compensation and Benefits: • The expected compensation range for this position is between $66,300 - $111,000. • Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Qualifications B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, Food microbiology, Engineering, or other related technical fields. Direct experience in sanitation, food safety, food microbiology in food manufacturing is a plus. Good understanding of basic food processing or manufacturing and the related food safety and quality programs. PCQI certification or good understanding of food safety hazard assessment is a plus. Strong organizational and data management skills. Sound data interpretation skills and CAPA development. Achieve quality results consistently despite obstacles. Monitors progress against goals, identifies issues and takes corrective action early. The candidate must be a team-oriented person with skills that effectively bring people and issues to decisive resolution. Ability to develop positive working relationships with manufacturing personnel and gain commitment from others to accomplish work. Able to provide guidance/support appropriately to meet business timelines; successfully handle adverse circumstances.
