The Opportunity:
The Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Aggregated Monitoring and Control (AM&C) Technical Lead plays a pivotal role in the comprehensive management of SATCOM AM&C engineering processes and operations. This includes the development, implementation, and maintenance of detailed engineering procedures to ensure optimal system performance and reliability. The role also involves providing strategic oversight of the engineering design lifecycle, encompassing initial concept development, system architecture, and detailed design through to testing and validation.
Additionally, the Technical Lead is responsible for managing configuration and change control processes, ensuring all modifications are executed in strict compliance with established standards and protocols. All tasks and deliverables are to be managed in alignment with schedules and milestones set by clients, as well as directives provided by system and product managers. This position demands a high level of technical expertise, leadership, and collaboration to meet and exceed project objectives.
The key responsibilities of the role, but is not limited to:
Oversee the technical management of all products and services, ensuring the implementation and operation of the SATCOM (AM&C) system and its interfaces with client systems, while exercising Technical Authority within the delegated scope.
Manage and implement the technical aspects of the business management system, including workforce and resource planning, coordinating professional development and training for technical personnel, and conducting risk and safety assessments for supported systems.
Support project standardisation by developing and maintaining templates for technical documentation, reviewing and approving technical documentation, and assisting Project Managers in defining project requirements and resolving technical issues.
Perform technical studies to refine project requirements, monitor engineering aspects of projects to ensure scope, schedule, and budget are maintained, and coordinate between resource managers to secure necessary reviews and approvals.
Influence business strategy to address internal and external regulatory or compliance issues, proactively identify and resolve complex problems impacting business management and direction, and ensure alignment with overall organisational objectives.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Essential:
Min of 10 years engineering experience
Degree-qualified Professional Engineer eligible for registration in Australia for relevant area(s) of practice. CPEng is highly desirable.
Experience of SATCOMS or Satellite Systems Technology
Engineering Team Leadership experience
Experience of holding and exercising Technical Authority
Experience working in Software development or integration projects
Knowledge of Systems and Software Engineering and applicable standards and process
Experience of establishing compliance and certification of assured systems.
Knowledge of Defence Technical Regulatory Framework processes
Knowledge of aviation or safety related software certification
Knowledge and experience of configuration management practices
Experience in producing plans, procedures, reports and presentations
Experience developing risk assessments
Strong focus on quality and attention to detail
Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical team members
Defence Aviation Mission Planning experience
Project and Contract Management experience
Experience in managing, training and mentoring engineers and other technical personnel
Desirable:
Strong experience and interest in C4ISREW domain and opportunities
Defence Engineering background, preferably within aviation or communications.
Defence Satellite and Tactical Communications Systems knowledge
Knowledge of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations
Knowledge of software standards such as DO-178 or DO-278, ISO/IEEE 12207 or MIL-STD-498
Knowledge of and experience with implementing System Safety standards such as MIL-STD-882
Knowledge of Defence ICT environments
Knowledge of software development methodologies(e.g. Agile, SCRUM, Spiral, Waterfall)
Network Architecture familiarity
Knowledge of Satellite Applications such as Network Management, POSIX, MONIX, Foresight.
