The Scanning Technician is responsible for reconciling and processing documentation to ensure all documents are processed in the electronic system (EPIC). The Scanning Technician must be familiar with the On Base system utilized to maintain the integrity of the patient's medical record as well as the Epic system. The Scanning Technician focuses on chart reconciliation and efficient processing of documentation with an understanding of all steps involved in chart processing, from running reports, prepping the records, scanning and performing a quality check on all documents processed before they are released in Epic.
Your Everyday
Verifies receipt of records from the hospital and clinics which are required to be scanned and indexed into the electronic health record:
Follows up on records not received the previous day of discharge and report issues to HIM supervisor.Picks up, reconciles, preps, scans, indexes and performs quality assurance for documents according to defined guidelines assuring the quality of the image as well as verifying the document type of the form.Prepares all medical record documents for scanning according to established procedures:
Ensures timely prepping of charts within the productivity standards per HIM policy.Confirms accuracy of all patient documents with patient information according to established guidelines and competencies.Processes documents, to be indexed correctly into the high-speed scanning software.Scans and monitors all work queues with regards to scanning, indexing, and quality assurance:
Ensures all assigned work queues are completed daily.Monitors and escalates issues to HIM supervisor.Ensures that all documents are indexed to the appropriate level (medical record, patient, encounter, or order) and document type, correct separation, and merge as necessary.Validates each document's integrity assuring 98% are of good quality and 100% are available in the EMR.Monitors all imaging work queues to complete backlog so that records are viewable in the EMR by the end of the workday.Maintains scanner equipment by cleaning scanner equipment at the end of shift.Follows all policies and procedures that pertain to scanning, indexing, and quality assurance of all medical record documents and HIM operations:
Follows appropriate policy and procedures with regards to prepping, scanning, indexing, and quality control.Other duties as assigned:

Minimum:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.Required: 1 year of work experience in customer service or healthcare.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated knowledge of computer technology and preferred knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Highly motivated, self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision.Capable of gathering data and making sound decisions in the best interest of the organization.Detail oriented and displays efficiency and accuracy in paper processing.Ability to identify and resolve issues independently and communicate effectively with other team members and management.Requires critical thinking skills and organizational skills.WORK SHIFT:
