QUALIFICATIONS
Age: Minimum 21 years of age
Skills: CPR/AED (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment)
Education: High School Diploma or better
Experience: Previous experience working with children, preferably in a camp or After-School Club environment.
Licenses & Certifications: Food Handlers Card; Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
General: Effective verbal and written communications, ability to multitask. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Must have ability to work and relate well with people. Must have a positive attitude toward helping and fostering children in their development.
Organization: The ability to maintain a directed schedule along with the ability to lead a large group through multiple projects in a timely manner. This position must be responsible, detail oriented, and have the ability to take projects from beginning through completion.
Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals. Exercise good judgment and comfortable taking initiative with projects.
Spiritual: The applicant will be required to attend and lead religious programs for children including devotions, Junior Church, and The Salvation Army’s Bible Based curriculum. The applicant must have a Christian witness and testimony.

EQUIPMENT:
• Proficiency required in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher. Proficiency a plus in Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Media Player, and Media Shout (or similar program).

SCOPE OF POSITION
The primary function of this position is to supervise both large and small groups of children with the assistance of other counselors. Counselors will be charged with maintaining the safety, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, character, and skill development of all campers. Camp counselors will help campers carry out activities, promote camper participation, and be asked to teach and/or demonstrate the following: sports skills, arts and crafts, movements, educational concepts, musical concepts, and various games. Overall, a counselor will supervise and lead activities for all day camps, after school programs, and children’s programs while ensuring the children’s safety and wellbeing.
Counselors work with youth ages 5-16. Must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers and peers. Counselors supervise and lead activities for all day camp events, after school events and other children’s programs. Counselors ensure campers’ and children’s safety and wellbeing of campers while they are in our care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervise all School’s Out Staff, including Counselors, Support Staff and Kitchen Staff. Create weekly schedule within designated software.
2. Supervise all aspects of School’s Out programs, including programs, billing, facility maintenance, and administration.
3. Coordinate all devotions for programs, leading devotions or working with Corps Officers and Community Center Managers to assist.
4. Assist weekly with The Salvation Army’s “Troops” programs, working with Community Center Manager to have supplies and activities ready. Assist on Sundays with Sunday School activities, including leading lessons, supervising free time and driving for pick-ups as needed. Oversee and participate as needed in weekly Middle School and High School groups.
5. Follow all Policies and Procedures to ensure safe buildings, programs and outings.
6. Recognize spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor
7. Serve as Counselor as needed to cover staff breaks and absences.
8. Responsible for coordinating Music Lessons with Music Lesson Leader, including lessons and practice into daily schedules.
9. During full day programs, responsible for coordinating large group activities, morning & closing rally, and games for all camps.
10. Responsible for all required statistical reporting, in cooperation with Community Center Manager.
11. Responsible for maintenance and cleaning schedule, ensuring all program areas are properly cleaned and maintained. Work with Community Center Manager for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual cleaning/maintenance check lists.
12. Will interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds.
13. Will handle disputes with participants, parents, staff and children in a professional manner with guidance of the as needed with coordination from Counselors.
14. Maintain a safe working environment: report any and all facility defects/problems to the Community Center Manager.
15. Enforce all rules that pertain to the children’s program and facility on a consistent basis.
16. Provide administrative support including filing, data entry, copies and other assigned tasks.
17. Drive The Salvation Army vehicles as directed by management to transport campers during off-site excursions. And follow all Salvation Army fleet procedures while driving and inspecting vehicles.
18. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.
• Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. for a short distance.
• Must be in excellent physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
• Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
• Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, smell, talk, hear, have eye-hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read English and work in noisy areas
• May walk or stand on varied surfaces. Will require work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
• The following equipment may be used: telephone, computer equipment, typewriter, electronic recorder, fax/copy machine, microphones, audio-visual equipment, 10-key calculator.
