We are looking for an experienced school bus driver to join our team at the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest County. Our school buses and youth vans service the cities of Temecula, Murrieta, and Lake Elsinore. Primarily responsible for operating the organizations Youth Bus and/or School Bus for the purposes of transporting registered members to and from school, field trips, special events, assisting with the maintenance of vehicles and ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers. All employees of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest County receive free before/after school care and day camps for eligible dependents. The hours are Monday through Friday 1:00pm-4:30pm. AM hours may be available. Summer hours are available around 20-30 hours a week.
Job Description / Essential Elements: Print Ensure the wellness and safety of all members by following the guidelines set forth by the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest County. Understands and adheres to all organizational policies and procedures in regard to transportation. Inspect vehicle daily and record and report findings according to CHP guidelines. Exemplify a positive role model for young people to emulate. Service vehicle as directed by the Transportation Coordinator. Clean interior of the van/bus daily, clean exterior of the van/bus weekly or as assigned. Ensure the number of passengers does not exceed the number of seats as designated for each vehicle. Maintain and control discipline in the van/bus and report problems to the Clubhouse Director and/or Transportation Coordinator. Maintain accurate reporting records.10. Complete accident or incident reports on all accidents/incidents that occur in the van/bus.
11. Ensure that all CHP and DMV driving requirements are completed and kept up to date.
12. Attend staff meetings as designated.
13. Follows all field trip policies and chaperones as assigned.
14. Perform related duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Graduation from high school, or GED, with one year experience as a School Bus Driver or prior work experience in transportation. Experience working with young people in a group setting (internships, student teaching and volunteer work may be acceptable). Possession of a valid California Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) or CDL (Class B) license with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements, and air brake certification. Have First Aid and CPR Certification, or ability to provide within 30 days of hire. CPR and First Aid certification Verification of safe driving record satisfied by submitting a Department of Motor Vehicles Driver’s K4 printout. Ability to operate school bus in a safe and responsible manner adhering to scheduling systems; reading and following route sheets; complying with established guidelines. Monitors members and other passengers during transit; maintain discipline as needed for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers. Strong oral and written command of the English language with basic math and writing skills to complete maintenance reports, vehicle logs and drafting routine reports and correspondence. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate in a professional manner. Able to work with a diverse population at all levels of the organization. Experienced schools’ bus or heavy-duty vehicle driver. Competent with rules and regulations of the road; and safety practices and procedures. Decision making, planning, organizing, communicating, and analyzing skills required, as well as the ability to lead educational, social, athletic and recreational activities in small and large group settings. Reading and understanding codes, laws, regulations, and policies California Class C driver’s license CPR and First Aid certification
