School Counselor JobID: 1441 + Position Type: Student Support Services/ Guidance Counselor + Date Posted: 2/14/2025 + Location: Benton Community Middle - High School + Date Available: August 1 + Closing Date: 02/28/2025    Position Criteria: + Professional School Counselor 5-12 endorsement & Master’s degree in School Counseling, required + Experience working with secondary (7-12) learners Performance Responsibilities Teamwork + Collaborate and confer with parents, students, colleagues, and administrators + Provide in-service training and guidance or learning for teachers and district staff + Advise administrators and faculty on the matters of student discipline, student mental health, post-secondary readiness, and more. + Connect children with specific needs and their parents to special programs, mental health services, specialists, and outside agencies when necessary. + Work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the school counseling program. + Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of team collaboration through the Collaborative Learning/Data Teams (CLDT) and know how to work in a team to improve individually and as a system. + Delivery of professional development in a variety of ways to enhance staff knowledge in the areas of working with at-risk students, implementing positive behavior supports and interventions in the classroom, responding to student needs, etc. Educational Excellence + Support the implementation of the school counseling program. + Assist administration with the development of master schedule and scheduling of students. + Assist in the enrollment and management of concurrent enrollment with our partner, Kirkwood Community College. + Take an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents and the community at large. + Interpret the counseling program to the community + Plan and evaluate the counseling program. + Pursue continuous professional growth. + Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with all learners + Maintain accurate records of interactions with students, adults, and other data collection pieces to ensure a quality school counseling program is being implemented. Continuous Growth + Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of education, personal, social and career needs. + Help students evaluate career interests and choices + Develop and monitor accommodations and interventions; assist with the Problem Solving Process; collaborate with teachers and administrators to determine necessary changes. + Demonstrate knowledge of programs such as Senior Year Plus, IDEA, Post-Secondary Readiness, and other related pieces that connect with secondary education. Caring/Belong + Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustments. + Remain readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. + Counsel individuals and groups of students who demonstrate specific needs. + Work to increase student attendance and prevent students from dropping out of school. + Guide students in their participation in school and community activities + Create and maintain healthy relationships with students
