Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Granted Term (if applicable) 12 month Begin Date of Appointment 07/01/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The School Director is responsible for administering an academic school within a college which may include and is not limited to, overall strategic thinking and growth for the school and its programs, offerings, and operations, faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student advisement, budgeting and budget control, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the school. Description of Primary Duties 1. Manage and lead the School; facilitate School operations, initiatives, and community outreach, fundraising, and marketing;2. Collaborate with Program Directors to engage in strategic planning; facilitate interprofessional collaboration; support accreditation processes and program evaluation; advocate for equitable distribution of resources; oversee budgets;3. Serve as a liaison and advocate for the School with the Dean, Provost, and other University Departments, as well as external constituents;4. Cultivate a cohesive culture in the School, characterized by collaboration, cohesion, and engagement and regularly scheduled meetings with faculty and staff;5. Recruit, supervise, and mentor faculty and staff;
6. Support student recruitment, persistence, and evaluation efforts. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of school director are prescribed by the College Dean in concert with guidance from the Provost. These include: possession of a terminal degree; at least three years of successful teaching, research and service experience; evidence of leadership experience; and a demonstrated commitment to Missouri State University’s inclusive excellence principles. Additional Qualifications Terminal degree in a discipline within the School of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Credentials for appointment to Associate or Full Professor level, which includes a strong record of teaching, service, and scholarship Involvement with academic strategic planning, curricula planning, student recruitment and persistence, and program assessment Documented success with recruitment, mentoring, development, and evaluation of others Experience with budget and resource management Experience obtaining and/or maintaining accreditation for academic programs Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to lead a team toward goal achievement Experience working with multiple constituencies and the experience or potential to build effective interprofessional collaborations within the College, as well as with the University and community Ability to lead through democratic team building and promote cohesiveness and a culture that values diverse views and perspectives Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for creating an inclusive environment with faculty, staff, and students
