Yes Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Granted Term (if applicable) 12 month Begin Date of Appointment 02/01/2025 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The School Director is responsible for administering an academic school within a college which may include and is not limited to, overall strategic thinking and growth for the school and its programs, offerings, and operations, faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student advisement, budgeting and budget control, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the school. Description of Primary Duties This posting is for consideration of current regular full-time university employees only.
The Director of Special Education, Leadership and Professional Studies will be expected to: Serve as School Director, which includes primary duties administrating undergraduate and graduate programs in the school. Provide visionary academic and administrative leadership to a dynamic faculty. Supervise and evaluate SELPS faculty and staff. Provide oversight for the Bear POWER program and act as direct supervisor to the Bear POWER Director. Oversee the school’s daily operations and support the development and implementation of faculty professional development plans. Provide oversight and support for student recruitment, retention, and program development. Create and maintain faculty teaching assignments, including monitoring course enrollments and credit hour production. Provide ongoing engagement in, support for, and oversight of program evaluation. Execute duties specific to the operation of the University and the College of Education as assigned. Participate in and take an active leadership role in various accreditation efforts, including but not limited to State Education Department program approval. Support faculty research across all programs and provide mentorship to beginning faculty. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of school director are prescribed by the College Dean in concert with guidance from the Provost. These include: possession of a terminal degree; at least three years of successful teaching, research and service experience; evidence of leadership experience; and a demonstrated commitment to Missouri State University’s inclusive excellence principles. Additional Qualifications Earned doctoral degree in one of the program fields housed in the college of education or closely related field. Evidence of highly effective support of university-level teaching, research, and service. Eligible for tenure and graduate faculty status at Missouri State University. Ability to teach courses in at least one of the programs in the college. Effective leadership skills and professional dispositions. Evidence of an established research agenda and experience. Evidence of commitment to promoting a diverse environment and willingness to lead the faculty toward incorporating multi-cultural and multi-perspective experiences in their interactions with students and the community. Experience working with a multi-disciplinary faculty team. Demonstration of successful advocacy for programs and/or departments. Evidence of an appreciation and/or understanding of multiple programs.
