Essential Functions:

ThriveKids Student Wellness is a community-based program at Children’s Hospital New Orleans with a mission to improve healthcare and academic outcomes for students by partnering with schools to expand access to healthcare services within the classroom; services include staffing schools with healthcare professionals and providing/facilitating direct patient care services for students while at school. 

Individual will be a full-time direct employee of Children’s Hospital New Orleans and will have a 12-month working schedule.

Individual will provide support, care, and education to families and children ages 6 weeks to 3-years-old in Orleans Parish early learning centers. Position will require travel to and from different centers throughout New Orleans. Individual will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing support and education to staff in early learning centers. May perform vision and hearing screenings, participate in in the development of IHPs and IFSPs and support acute medical needs.

As a school nurse, individual will be accountable for responsibilities such as daily clinical oversight for all students, training/delegating other school staff members, developing student care plans, and serving as a health liaison between stakeholders; will have access to Children’s Hospital New Orleans specialty services to supplement and resource student health needs. Has the opportunity for career development at Children’s Hospital New Orleans as well as the option to work for summer school nursing programs or other outpatient clinic needs across the hospital when the school year is not in session.

Job Qualifications:   

Experience- 2 years RN nursing experience in pediatric nursing; Preferred: 5+ years of progressively increasing experience in pediatrics, school-based nursing, or community nursing

Education- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor's degree in nursing is required or must be able to obtain BSN Degree within three years of hire. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Certifications/licenses- Louisiana State Board of Nursing - Registered Nurse License; American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification; Maintains ancillary certification with the Louisiana Dept of Education; Acquires a minimum of 10 contact hours of continuing education in subjects related to school nursing. Preferred: Pediatric / Nursing Certification
