Reports to: Deputy Head of School  We seek a compassionate and empathetic Registered Nurse (RN) to work in our Nursing Team in the Health Center. The person in this role will work collaboratively with the student services and residential life teams to ensure students are well cared for physically, emotionally and psychologically. This role will be based in a health center on a high school campus.  The Health Center Team are responsible for delivering exceptional healthcare services to our students during scheduled daytime and overnight work hours. The Health Center Team works in conjuncture with local area urgent care offices, and emergency rooms to manage all medical needs. Together as a team, we create a community where students feel safe and supported. We safeguard trust with a real family feel that makes our school a home away from home.  As both a start-up and a boarding school, at EF Academy Pasadena our faculty and staff are guided in their practice by an educator competency architecture with four domains that define how to be and become inspiring educators, committed caretakers, courageous innovators, and relationship builders.  Working on this team of staff requires a commitment to best practices, a comfort with iteration, and a fervor for collaboration.

Professional Qualifications and Qualities:·        Active California State nursing license (RN).·        Experience in a residential setting or with international students strongly preferred.·        Previous experience working with the pediatric population is preferred.·        Solid assessment, clinical documentation skills, strong attention to detail and collaborative skills.·        Patient-oriented with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.·        Completion of Mandated Reporter training.·        Ability and desire to work during hours when students are not in class, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.·        BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.·        Optional ACLS/PALS certification.·        Knowledge of CA State mandatory vaccine schedule.·        Familiar with CA State conjugate setting Dept. of Health Regulations.·        Any other trainings required by the State of CA applicable to school nursing.·        Be a motivated and flexible team player that is ready to work towards the good of the community.·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.-        Athletic Trainer Certification would be desirable, but not essential.
Key Responsibilities in each domain:  Committed CaretakersWe take our responsibility of ‘in loco parentis’ very seriously. When students are in our care, they are the most important thing in the world. Every interaction with them should come from the heart. ·        Support students with physical and emotional wellbeing.·        Administer medications and oversee the medication administration training of the Residential Life Team.·        Follow procedures for safe and secure storage of all controlled medication and students’ prescribed personal medications.·        Duties during an overnight shift include case management for students who have been previously admitted to the Health Center during the day, as well as assessment and care for new patients who present during overnight hours.·        Use the appropriate confidential student information system to keep up-to-date notes and records on students who are receiving support or treatment.·        Play a key role in creating a school-wide culture which places the safety and well-being of its students at the forefront.·        Crisis Intervention, which may involve being prepared to be flexible in being available to support in crisis situations.·        Respond to healthcare emergencies in a timely and efficient manner.·        Perform clinical assessments of students.·        Generate individualized treatment plans for students in accordance with best evidence-based practice with reference to academic and familial expectations.·        Attend and contribute to weekly Wellness Meetings with the relevant faculty and staff to discuss ongoing relationships, progress, and referrals.·        Ensure students and staff have a safe school environment using prevention techniques for infectious diseases. ·        Refer students to community resources, if needed.·        Contribute to school policies and protocols regarding student safety, wellbeing and crisis management.·        Meet with potential student applicants who have disclosed medical health history or needs to assess their suitability and evaluate and support their transition to our school, if they are accepted.·        Support with all ordering and safe storage of equipment and medical supplies required for the Health Center.·        Adhere to national and local healthcare laws.  Relationship BuildersWe offer our students a second home. They join an extended family that cares for them, nurtures them and encourages them to become their best selves. ·        Contribute to a caring and student-centered approach to our community, working closely with the Residential Life Team to ensure that all students feel known and included.·        Make our students feel welcome, known and cared for through authentic interactions.·        Communicate with families, when appropriate, to discuss medical needs of students.·        Work with local support services and community resources, such as police, hospitals, therapists, nutritionists, mental health professionals and any other relevant community resources.·        Participate in and attend school events to support students and develop our sense of community.·        Contribute to community-building through student welcome, arrival and departure days.·        Maintain a proactive approach in the retention of students by ensuring they feel supported through collaboration with parents and EF Academy staff.  Inspiring EducatorsCreate meaningful and intentional learning opportunities through residential life programming for students to learn how to be proactive and self-reflective in managing their well-being, developing their independence, and engaging in the community. ·        Run group sessions and interest groups.·        Collaborate with the Health Center Team and Wellness Team in providing relevant preventative health resources to support students in building health habits.·        Provide advice and support to teachers in creating curricula and providing instruction that supports the health and wellbeing of the students.·        Provide education for students pertaining to individual conditions.·        Lead and support in full faculty and staff training sessions throughout the academic year. Courageous InnovatorsBe brave in collaborating with others to implement exciting and creative opportunities for students to develop their cultural competency. ·        Play a key role in creating a school-wide culture which places the safety, well-being and happiness of its students at the forefront.·        Encourage and incorporate student voice and leadership into wellness processes.·        Participate in professional learning opportunities offered by the school.·        Other duties may be assigned as required.   Working Hours:  Full time or Part time considered. This is a non-exempt, salaried position. This means that the average working week will be 40 hours with opportunities for overtime hours to cover staff absence, events and busy periods.  The position combines in-office daytime and evening hours with on-call overnight hours, which may include weekends, on an on-call rotation with the larger health center team.
