About the Role & TeamAs the Science Programs Specialist, you will contribute to multidisciplinary scientific projects in support of the Science Operations team’s strategic plans. The Science team is a dynamic, 28-person team consisting of experts from multiple disciplines focused on behavior, endocrinology, cognition, behavioral husbandry, population biology, environmental monitoring and welfare that contribute to the care and welfare of animals living across Disney’s parks and resorts.
In this role, you will report to the Science Operations Manager.
What You Will DoLead and coordinate (including data collection, analysis, reporting) applied research projects with an emphasis on animal care and welfare topics, as well as population management focused projects in support of animal collection planning initiativesCollaborate with both internal and external partners to identify, prioritize, and conduct applied management and technical projects to support operational and industry needsContribute to the Science Operations team’s teaching commitments including courses designed for Animal Program Cast Members and local university studentsTrain Cast in support of scientific and operational projects including development of training materials, conducting trainings, and evaluating training effectivenessServe on the Science Operations Leadership team, leading by example with an innovative and growth mindset that emphasizes the generation of novel ideas and solution-oriented approaches to operational challengesShare project findings externally in presentation and publication formatsHelp create and deliver quality guest experiences that showcase the Science team’s contributions to evidence-based animal care at Disney and for the broader zoo and aquarium industryRequired Qualifications & SkillsExperience publishing in peer reviewed scientific journalsExperience presenting scientific work to different audiencesProficiency in designing research projects, including statistical analysisAbility to optimally manage large scale scientific and/or operational projects from conceptualization to completionStrong communication skills in both written and oral formatsExperience working as part of a larger team with diverse stakeholdersPreferred QualificationsMinimum of five years of experience working for a zoological institutionExperience conducting research with more than one taxonomic group of animalsExperience teaching university level coursesEducationMasters or PHD in Biology/Zoology/Psychology/Animal Science or related fieldAdditional InformationBenefits and Perks: Disney offers a rewards package to help you live your best life!
