Provides advanced scientific and technical expertise to facilitate the design of clinically-based research projects, implementation of research protocols in clinical settings, management and analysis of research data, and dissemination of research results. **Position Key Accountabilities:** 1. Develops, implements, and evaluates novel research projects. 2. Identifies problems and formulates research projects by using information and data obtained through contact with other researchers, physicians, or literature searches. 3. Rigorously manages research data, including maintaining audit trails. 4. Analyzes and interprets research data using complex techniques and procedures with the assistance of a statistician or other experts as warranted. 5. Collaborates and submits research findings for publication to advance the scientific knowledge of others. Results and findings are submitted through written research papers, public presentation at local or national meetings, or personal exchanges with faculty members and other scientists. 6. Assists the principal investigator in obtaining grant funds and other types of financial support for research projects, though the discovery of potential funding mechanisms, writing (with the principal investigator) grant proposals, grant applications and any re-submissions, grant progress reports, among other funding mechanism related requirements. 7. Manages research projects, including maintaining accurate up-to-date accounting of the project status (e.g. recruitment, retention, supplies, completion of study procedures). 8. Coordinates and facilitates clinical recruitment and clinical study procedures with labs, hospitals, clinical staff, and other research team members. 9. Maintains strong working relationships with research team members, partner institutions, and clinical staff. 10. Identifies problems and trends in clinical research projects, recommending procedural changes as appropriate. 11. Develops, monitors, and works within budgets. 12. Negotiates contracts and data use agreements between institutions. 13. Prepares progress reports for management, sponsors, and governmental agencies. 14. Conducts onsite clinical visits, clinical observations, meetings, and on the job training. 15. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 16. May manage Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 17. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. **Certification/Skills:** Expertise in Microsoft Office suite of applications and data analysis software. Expertise in data management. Superior written and verbal communication skills. **Minimum Education:** Research doctoral degree (PhD) or Candidate for Research doctorate degree (PhD(c)) with planned degree completion within 6 months. **Minimum Experience:** Two (2) years of experience working on funded research projects and clinical practice experience as a nurse or physician.
