Scientist, Applications & Custom Solutions, Texture & Healthful Solutions, US/Canada - Innovation

Ingredion is hiring a Scientist to work with our Applications teams and support management of the White Marsh Idea Labs facility. The role will be responsible for managing projects and functional portfolio, developing new ingredients and solutions, publishing technical and go-to-market materials, overseeing preparation of customer prototypes and documentation, and supporting key customer projects. The Scientist will lead and support multidisciplinary new product development and applied research projects.
 

As a Scientist, Applications & Custom Solutions, your responsibilities will include:

Scouting and implementation for of application testing of existing and new ingredients and technologies for the use in food and beverage applications to deliver innovative Texture and Healthful solutions.Independent development and implementation of methodology and specification development in the field of characterization of hydrocolloids and customized solutions related to Texture and Healthful solutions.Documentation of all development activities including ingredient screening, methodology development, and other research activities to support our Quality and Operations teams.Creation of knowledge database for existing and new ingredients to better support AI implementation.  Coordination with Product Portfolio Management and Procurement on project prioritization to support the general business around hydrocolloids and custom solutions.Coordination with Operation, Quality, and Engineering on projects that require change of management and validation prior to implementation and commercialization.   Support Quality on managing necessary activities to correct non-conformances or customer complaints when needed.Working with go-to-market teams to understand project/market needs in growing sectors, define shared work plans, and gain support/input throughout project timelines.  Ensuring team designs and conducting appropriate experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant to advance projects to completion.Leading and Coordination on Medium-to-Long term projects through Stage-Gate processDeveloping technical presentations to be presented at organization meetings and trade shows.Keeping appropriate records to support IP strategy and develop patent applications. Conducting prior art searches (literature, patents) related to projects and stay abreast of meat science and batter & breading technology and external environment (market trends, IP landscape).

Qualified candidates will have: 

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline with a minimum of seven years of project and program management and solid understanding of food science principles.  Prior knowledge of ingredient selection and differentiation related to selecting and formulating with Starches, Hydrocolloids, Proteins, Specialty Sweeteners, Flavors, Enzymes, and Cultures.Experience with analytical techniques and methods including, but not limited to:  Rheology, Texture Analyzers, FTIR, NIR, HPLC, GPC-Malls, Microscopy, Particle Size Analysis, MicrobiologicalAbility to mentor and build capabilities in innovation and new product development to deliver excellence in knowledge and process management.  Ability to inform and influence decisions at all levels in the organization.Excellent technical skills with the ability to act as a Project Leader and implement process improvements.  Flexible and adaptable, comfortable leading multiple projects concurrently.Curiosity and creativity with a customer-focused mindset with ability to proactively inspire change.Analytical and critical thinker with excellent business acumen and strong problem-solving skills.Ability to engage and build working relationships effectively with diverse stakeholders across functions and levels of the organization.  Experience with SAP, Salesforce, and Formulation Management systems.
