Job Description:

The C5ISR Business Unit Chief Engineer is responsible for delivering the technical, cost and schedule performance for all engineering content within the C5ISR Business Unit. S/he provides strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the business unit engineering policies, objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals.  S/he is responsible for maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the business unit’s strategic goals and operational plans. The C5ISR Chief Engineer is also responsible for the overall organizational health of the engineering workforce and for the recruitment, retention, and development of top talent. 

The C5ISR Chief Engineer’s primary responsibility is to lead a cross-functional engineering team to cultivate innovative product solutions, advance critical technology enablers, and execute product development projects that serve the Government/DoD and International markets for the C5ISR Business Unit. The C5ISR Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring technical, cost and schedule  execution of the Engineering content of programs. The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successfull program deliveries of customer needs. A key part of this role is to work collaboratively across organizational boundries and ensure C5ISR programs are smoothly transitioned to production and deployment phases.The Chief Engineer must be able to interact with Division peers, Sector, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near and long term objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

•Build, lead and manage the cross-functional engineering organization dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the Engineering team and business unit product roadmaps. 

•Technical, cost and schdeule accountability for technical project execution

•Management of engineering staffing demand, allocation of resources and posting of requisitions to successfully support the business unit.

•Work with the Engineering Leadership Team to conduct ongoing skills assessment and proactively address potential skills gaps. Lead and mentor the engineering leadership team to continue to develop strong technical leaders.

•Planning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition, across C5ISR market to meet business unit goals and objectives.

•Manage C5ISR Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio and develop and maintain product technology roadmap

•Manage Engineering organization budgets.

•Champion the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.

•Decision maker for high level / high impact engineering technical issues.

•Working in conjunction with the Division leadership, co-develop the organization’s growth and product strategy.

•Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices within the Engineering organization.

•Maintain a climate of fostering a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment. Oversees staffing plans and reviews work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding.

•Represents engineering organization with major customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications: 

•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree in Engineering or an MBA and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.  In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

•10+ years of applicable experience in a product development role; DoD experience a must, with 10 years experience leading cross functional teams

•Experience leading large engineering organizations that are geographically diverse

•Must hold an active Secret level Security Clearance; which requires US Citizenship

Travel Requirements

Positon requires travel up to 20%
