Scientist, Protein Sciences MAPS
Site Name: Cambridge Binney Street Posted Date: Feb 3 2025 We’re combining the power of genetic and genomic insights into what causes disease, with the speed and scale of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to make better predictions about who a treatment might work for, and why. We believe this powerful combination of data and technology holds the key to fundamentally transforming medical discovery for the better, improving R&D success rates and shaping how even the most challenging diseases, like neurological conditions and cancer, can be both prevented and treated. We are currently seeking a highly motivated scientist with hands-on experience in organic synthesis (preferably in the polysaccharide chemistry area) to join our protein science team. Prior experience of working in the conjugate vaccine development projects will be plus. Our protein science team is responsible for generating high quality protein and polysaccharide antigens from different bacterial pathogens to support our vaccine development programs. You will work closely with the members from immunology and molecular biology groups in a highly collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: Independently purify polysaccharides, develop and optimize protocols for chemical modifications of bacterial capsular polysaccharides to enable generating protein-polysaccharide complexes as conjugate vaccine candidates. Characterize purity and homogeneity of the purified polysaccharides and protein-polysaccharide complexes using various analytical and biophysical tools e.g. RP-HPLC, SEC-HPLC, SEC-MALS, DLS, NMR, spectrophotometric assays etc. Independently troubleshoot challenges and come up with novel solutions. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Ph.D. with 0+, MS with 2+ or BS with 5+ years of hands experience in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology or process sciences in a pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Prior experience in organic/carbohydrate synthesis and the understanding of reaction mechanism is needed. Knowledge of analytical and bio-physical protein characterization techniques like: RP-HPLC, SEC-MALS, NMR, DLS, etc. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Strong ability to multi-tasking and willingness to work effectively in a highly collaborative and diverse environment as a team player with a strong work ethic. Able to maintain written records in the form of laboratory notebooks. Please visit GSK US Benefits Summary to learn more about the comprehensive benefits program GSK offers US employees. Why GSK?
