This position in our Glenview, IL Kraft Heinz Innovation Center involves applying foundational knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, chromatography and mass spectrometry. The industrial challenges are to measure and characterize small molecules to biopolymers (below). This is an ideal opportunity for a laboratory-focused scientist who enjoys integrating laboratory findings into cohesive explanations of what is happening at the molecular level in food ingredients and processing.
Investigation Opportunities:

The successful candidate will plan and execute independent projects, participate in development of project objectives, and execute against same, recommending action plans to implement key findings. The candidate should have aptitudes for application and maintenance of complex analytical instrumentation. The candidate will be evaluated on communication skills and potential for demonstrating technical leadership within a scientifically and culturally diverse organization.
RELATIONSHIPS (EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL):
· Will collaborate with internal clients, including R&D and potentially plant personnel.
· Will interact with equipment/instrument manufacturers, external lab partners, suppliers.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Operational knowledge to solve complex problems by application of one or more analytical techniques, including but not limited to liquid chromatography-UV-FLD,
gas chromatography-FID, ion chromatography-ECD, size exclusion chromatography, gas chromatography- and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry
· Applied knowledge of sample preparation and headspace introduction techniques (SPME/SBSE/Dynamic Headspace) including gas chromatography-olfactometry-mass spectrometry for a variety of food and beverage matrices is desired
· Knowledge of chromatography data systems such as Chromeleon, MassLynx and MassHunter desired
· Knowledge of establishing ISO 17025 accredited methods, creating standard operating procedures and performing vitamin and food safety analyses desired
· B.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 4 years lab experience or M.S degree in related field with 2 years lab experience or PhD degree in related field
· Excellent laboratory experimentation and data analysis skills
· Good organizational skills and attention to detail
· Excellent interpersonal & project management skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to build strong customer/client relationships
