Scientist 3 – Translational Medicine, Oncology
The Position

The Translational Medicine function at Genentech has a vision to transform patient care through borderless, innovative, and rigorous translational science that will catalyze the development of new medicines, accelerate drug development timelines, and discover new therapeutic strategies. To fulfill our vision, we recruit talented and highly motivated scientists to develop and execute innovative biomarker and diagnostic strategies to drive clinical development through all phases of the portfolio, and conduct foundational disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific and clinical impact.

You will contribute to translational research efforts, with the goal of participating in the discovery and investigation of novel drug targets in the therapeutic area of oncology and tumor immunology. You will be a lab-based member of a cross-functional team. 

 

Role and Responsibilities

 

Hands-on, lab-based position responsible for leading, designing and executing in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo experiments to validate biological and therapeutic hypotheses derived from clinical biomarker data, real-world data, and other sources.

Elucidating mechanisms of action to enable in-depth understanding of fundamental disease biology, as well as experimentally validate novel therapeutic targets.

Executing experimental strategies and including the application of molecular and genomic technologies to identify, evaluate, and validate novel therapeutic targets.

Participate in and contribute to team and department meetings, and effectively collaborate with researchers across different departments and functions at Genentech.

 

Who you are:

Hold degree(s) in Cell / Molecular / Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biological / Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines.

Ph.D. degree or BA/BS or MS degree(s) with combined 6+, or 4+ years of hands-on laboratory research experience, respectively.

Multi-disciplinary expertise in tumor microenvironment and immuno-oncology fields, with substantial expertise and hands-on laboratory research experience in immuno-assays and primary immune cell assays, including but not limited to purification of immune cells for in-vitro cell culture, immune cell functional assays, tumor killing assays and multi-color flow cytometry.

Deep knowledge of cancer biology and oncogenic signaling pathways and expertise with molecular biology assays, cell-based and biochemical assays, genome engineering techniques, and multi-omic assays( eg. scRNAseq).

Direct experience with animal models of immune response and/or anti-tumor immunity is preferred.

Possess a thoughtful and meticulous approach to experimental design and execution, and bring scientific rigor and creativity to problem solving.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with scientists and associates from multiple laboratories, disciplines and departments.

A proven track record, including authorship of and / or contributions to, publications in top tier journals is preferred.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $100,000- $185,600.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
