Job Description

The Research, Advanced Prototyping, and Innovative Design (RAPID) Laboratory within the Electro-Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) business is responsible for all materials, Focal Plane Array (FPA) and camera research to advance EOIS technology with government and industry partners. Selected withheld and strategic efforts are also executed in the RAPID Lab to accelerate development. The Scientist we are looking for will be an integral part of new product development in advanced infrared sensors. This person will interface and work closely with other team members representing a wide range of disciplines and subject matter experts, including device physics, material science, readout integrated circuits, device characterization, electro-optical test engineering, electronics, and system design. The candidate will be involved in the development of new infrared focal plane arrays, new Avalanche PhotoDiode based lidar sensors, and 3D imaging systems. Duties will include device testing, data analysis, report generation, and oral presentations.

ResponsibilitiesPlan, conduct, and direct research and development projects to improve product performance or invent new product concepts.Set up imaging systems and collect and analyze data.Process 3D images.Generate reports and present technical papers.Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings.Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsMaster’s degree in physical science or engineering discipline; PhD in physics, engineering, or related sciences preferred.A minimum of 5 years of experience with infrared focal plane array testing.Ability to obtain and maintain US DoD clearance as needed, which requires US Citizenship.Understanding of the physics of photon counting detectors.Experience with image processing algorithms.Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.Experience with data analysis using MATLAB or similar software.Additional Skills & QualificationsIn-depth understanding of Avalanche Photodiode detectors.Working knowledge of Readout Integrated Circuits for focal plane arrays.Programming experience with the person, C++, MATLAB, etc.Optical system modeling and data analysis.5+ years of experience in semiconductor device physics and modeling.Strong coding skills to maintain, modify, and create device performance models for various solid-state device architectures and phenomenology.Ability to understand and analyze data related to semiconductor device performance.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Organized, proactive, and able to communicate to both highly technical and programmatic audiences with equal ease.U.S citizenship is required. Must be able to meet security standards and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.Work Environment

The work environment is a high-level research and development setting involving theoretical and practical tasks. The role requires a PhD and expertise in device modeling, computations, and simulations related to device performance. Experience with infrared or any photo detector in any wave band is ideal. The job combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications to improve device performance using modeling and physics. The role is suited for someone with experience in semiconductor device physics and modeling. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $200000.00/yr.

Compressed Work Schedule. The DRS facility to which you will be assigned operates on a “9/80” compressed work schedule. A compressed work schedule allows employees to work longer days for part of a two-week pay period in exchange for a day off during each pay period. This schedule allows our employees to take off every other Friday. Specific details of this schedule will be provided during employee orientation.
