Pay Range:

$89,300.00 - $146,900.00

Position Summary: 

The Research and Development Science group (R&D Science) at ProteinSimple, a Bio-Techne brand, is seeking an innovative and experienced Scientist to join our growing team on our mission to develop game-changing analytical instrumentation. As a part of the Product Development Team, you will collaborate with other innovative scientists and engineers who have a passion for product development and a knack for disrupting the way researchers characterize their samples. Our team works on exciting technologies for analysis of biomolecules and cells, including capillary electrophoresis, automated immunoassays, microfluidics, and cell sorting. In this role, you will be significantly involved in product development from concept to commercialization, delivering cutting edge technologies to our global customer base.

Key Responsibilities: 

New Product Development

Support development and testing of new reagents and/or instrumentation through experimental design and in-depth data analysis

Provide scientific input on instrument and consumables development in collaboration with the Product Development Team

Ensure product performance by planning and conducting validation and test procedures for new product introductions

Support product commercialization through transfer of new products to Manufacturing, including creating SOPs and defining QC specifications

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Solve development challenges through systematic testing, characterization, and troubleshooting

Critically analyze, interpret, and present complex data and provide recommendations based on results

Expert in Analytical Science

Good understanding of protein chemistry and bioanalytical techniques, including electrophoretic and/or chromatographic separations with an emphasis on immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, western blot, MSD, Luminex)

Attends and contributes at scientific conferences and reports on new findings and technologies in protein research and characterization

Collaboration and Technical Leadership

Work closely with R&D Science, Engineering, Software, and Manufacturing teams to develop, validate, and release new products and assays

Scientific lead on projects to guide activities and communicate progress within and across departments 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or a related field and up to 5 years of relevant experience is required 

Or, Master’s degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) and 8-10 years of experience is required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Able to design experiments, interpret data, and make conclusions from analytical instruments

In-depth knowledge of protein chemistry

Experience performing immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, western blot, MSD) or other biomolecule characterization techniques is required (e.g., LC, Octet, cIEF, CE-SDS, DLS, etc.)

Experience with biotechnology assay development or new product development is preferred

Independent thinker with demonstrated ability to make decisions based on data and propose future actions with little oversight

Strong technical and analytical skills for hands-on research

Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills and procedures

Self-motivated and exhibit a high degree of flexibility to work independently and collaboratively on complex projects

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint Word).  Experience with JMP statistical software and/or a programming language (Python, MATLAB, R etc.) is preferred.
