Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated PhD level CryoEM specialist to report into Takeda’s Structural Biology organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the field of structural biology and will use this expertise to generate data, interpret structures and provide insights that will advance Takeda’s drug discovery programs. A successful candidate will work with internal and external teams to execute structure-based efforts and protein production requirements as well as collaborate with cross-functional teams to progress Takeda’s pipeline.

The successful candidate will:

Plan and execute gene-to-structure projects as well as generate target co-complex structures with small molecules and/or biologic proteins using in-house CryoEM capabilities and contract research organizations, including utilization of in-house hardware, software and database resourcesAnalyze proprietary and public structural information to positively impact computational and medicinal chemistry efforts and/or antibody design, optimization and characterizationWork collaboratively on pipeline projects with an interdisciplinary team (biologists, medicinal and computational chemists, in vitro and in vivo pharmacologists, informatics scientists, DMPK, project management)Clearly communicate structural data, interpretation and insights to diverse audiences including structural biology group, project teams, department colleagues and senior leadership

Candidate qualifications include:

PhD degree in a scientific discipline (Structural Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry/Enzymology, Protein Chemistry) with 3+ years direct experience utilizing CryoEM instrumentation, data generation and structure analysis; MS (5+ years) or BS (10+ years) candidates with CryoEM experience also consideredDemonstrated track record of supporting high-quality structure determination and validation of protein and co-complex structures; experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies contributing to drug discovery pipelines highly desirableExperience utilizing CryoEM and modeling software packages including but not limited to CryoSparc, Relion, Coot, ChimeraX, PHENIX, Schrodinger software, PSILO or other structure deposition databasesProficiency in operation of cryoEM hardware, including alignment, maintenance and use of cryoTEMs (ThermoFisher or Jeol) and grid plungers (Vitrobot, Chameleon) highly desirableExtensive knowledge of and experience in protein production including construct design/protein engineering, protein expression systems (bacterial, insect, mammalian systems), protein purification techniques and protein characterization methodsExperience with small molecule micro electron diffraction, protein crystallography methods and structure determination, biophysical techniques (SPR, ITC, DLS, etc), and/or membrane protein production and crystallization highly desirablePassion for learning and advancing structural biology capabilities and drug discovery pipelines, including proactive investigation of new techniques and capabilities, advanced software / hardware and innovative experimental approachesAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with a collaborative and proactive mindset, motivated by a desire to create therapeutic molecules for the benefit of patients in need worldwide

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$108,500.00 - $170,500.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
