Oligonucleotide Chemist
Pace® Life Sciences is a premier Contract Research and Development Organization located just north of Cambridge, MA providing pharmaceutical development services for small molecules, protein biologics, oligonucleotide and mRNA therapeutics, and other innovative drug candidates.

 

Summary
We seek a highly motivated chemist with experience in the design and synthesis of oligonucleotides to support drug discovery and development programs. Our clients include biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies from new startups to those with global operations. Competitive applicants will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the solid phase synthesis of therapeutic oligonucleotides and their analytical characterization, conjugation chemistries to attach oligonucleotides to proteins, an ability to collaborate in a dynamic and fast changing environment, creative problem solving, and excellent oral as well as written communication skills. This is a full-time scientist position in Woburn, MA with title commensurate to experience.

 

Responsibilities include:
• Independently design and execute experiments, analyze data, and understand the reliability of results.
• Present results and planned experiments clearly and concisely both verbally and in written reports.
• Maintain a strong awareness of scientific literature relevant to expertise and assigned projects.
• Maintain equipment and troubleshoot problems as needed.
• Continuously improve technical skills and acquire knowledge specific to the pharmaceutical industry.

 

Required background and experience includes:
• Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or closely related discipline with 0 – 3 years’ of industry experience or M.S./B.S. with 5+ year’s industry experience synthesizing oligonucleotides and/or peptides is required.
• Hands-on experience with oligonucleotide or peptide sequencers as well as common analytical instruments and techniques (e.g., UV/Vis, HPLC, LC-MS) for analysis of synthetic products.
• Experience with highly modified therapeutic oligonucleotides (e.g., ASO, siRNA, sgRNA) and ability to conjugate oligonucleotides to peptides/proteins or lipids is highly desired.
• Established track record of significant contributions as an individual technical expert as well as the ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as polished presentation skills.
• Flexibility and outstanding time management skills.

Mobility to work in a lab and office setting, use standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Senior Scientists will be required to work longer days from time to time to complete a project or finish job responsibilities.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a lab and office setting. Work is subject to chemicals, fumes, gasses, noxious odors and related items in a lab setting.
