Scientist II, Product Development - Beverages

This new hire will work at our McFONA Flavor Solutions Lab, located in Geneva, IL. The Scientist II will report to a Technical Beverage Director - North America Flavor Solutions.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Beverage Scientist II will independently select and evaluate flavor systems in application in support of customers and McCormick. Additionally, this role will be the interface with customers, R&D and the McCormick commercial teams, assisting in responding to specific project requests. The Scientist II will leverage the development of new flavors/ingredients and new methodologies and contribute to technically driven business development activities in the Beverage Flavor applications area.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Selection and evaluation of flavor performance in application by applying those in existing beverage application recipes according to regulatory, cost, customer, and beverage requirements. Develops new beverage application formulas and flavor concepts according to the newest industry standards. Execute and lead projects effectively and efficiently from brief to submission in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Capable of handling multiple projects at the same time in a methodical manner, with short deadlines. Be the technical contact for specific clients and key categories and prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers. Participate in clients meetings and visits. Investigate and assess new ingredients and technologies.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

BSc in Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field 5 - 10 years’ experience in the food and/or flavor industry with preferably: 2 yrs. of Beverage Flavor applications in a flavor house AND/OR 2 yrs. of Beverage Product Development within a consumer products company. Good communication skills. Team spirit and service-oriented mindset. Project management experience, accurate, rigorous, and well organized. Ability to interpret data and solve problems with incomplete information. Demonstrate the ability to work across the organization and with colleagues at different locations. An understanding of ingredients and technology along with their impact on product taste and functionality. Knowledge of food industry food ingredients, manufacturing processes, quality assurance programs and food regulations. Pro-active, autonomous, and able to take initiatives. Intellectual curiosity and flexibility. Supports and embraces change while continuing to improve technical and interpersonal skills.

Base Salary: $72,930 to $127,640

 

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
