About the Position
The Polymer Science and Technology team is responsible for identifying, developing, and industrializing new polymer and chemical technologies to support Goodyear’s performance and sustainability goals of the future. Associates work with cross functional teams and production to establish performance and manufacturability targets for tires and tire components. In conducting their work, associates may be responsible for developing and directing external collaborations, and projects are often conducted on a global basis where activities are coordinated through an international technical organization.
The Staff Scientist will be responsible for planning and executing new polymer and chemical development projects, as well as provide additional chemical expertise as needed to support Goodyear Chemical manufacturing plants and industrialization of new polymer or chemical products.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for new material / technology development in support of technology programs to improve tire performance, manufacturing, and cost. Planning and execution of the development of new polymer products to support Goodyear's long-term performance and sustainability goals. Support polymer scale-up in collaboration with process engineers. Collaboration with internal and external customers to translate tire product performance requirements, such as: rolling resistance, handling, durability, ride comfort & acoustics, into specific material characteristics. Provide onsite assistance to Goodyear Chemical manufacturing plants during plant trials as required. Communicates technical results to a broad audience and gains alignment on technical direction.
Required Education and Experience
PhD in Organic, Inorganic, Organometallic, or Polymer Chemistry, or similar field. 2+ years’ experience in in scientific field is recommended but not required.
Skills and Abilities
Strong background in synthetic chemistry and familiarity with polymers and their characterization techniques Experience in understanding structure/property relationships in materials is preferred. Proficiency in the statistical design & analysis of experimental data is preferred. Adoptive & flexible interpersonal skills, collaborative nature & commitment to innovation. Exceptional communication & technical documentation skills.#LI-DA2
