Scientist - Toxicology

The Scientist - Toxicology role ensures the chemical safety of the products produced for the Mars Wrigley (MW) segment.   This is done by assuring that the food we produce and ingredients we procure comply with all relevant regulation and any hazards are scientifically risk assessed and effectively mitigated.

The role is highly collaborative and provides in-depth expertise in toxicology at the global level and works in close collaboration with experts in R&D, Commercial, SQA, SRA and Corporate Quality.

What are we looking for?

PhD in toxicology or MPH and BSc in biochemistry or related field.

Minimum of 1 year food or petrochemical industry experience.

The role requires an extensive knowledge of the principles of toxicological risk assessment for humans.

Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Support the establishment of global contaminant limits for ingredients and raw materials

Collaborate with the science team, product development team and corporate toxicology team to ensure early awareness and evaluation of toxicity aspects which can impact raw material choice, product design and sourcing.

Interpretation of complex datasets or conversely limited toxicity information to perform toxicological risk assessment for the food safety assessment of raw materials, ingredients and additives that may be used in products developed and marketed by the business, as well as contaminants, natural toxins and process related toxins

Support the chemical risk section of the MW material and packaging risk assessment templates

Conduct toxicological risk assessments to support serious product related incidents

Act as a key subject matter expert in toxicology and coach and develop associate's toxicological knowledge and skills through designing and delivering training programs – for example SQA auditors, etc.

Contribute to the Horizon Scanning summary by monitoring and summarizing key emergent toxicological risks

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits.  Eligibility for these additional elements depend on the position offered and the employee’s work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule, store associate).  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
