Your Role:

The Viral Vector Applications Scientist at MilliporeSigma in Bedford, MA will play a pivotal role in supporting development of cutting-edge tools and technologies for the rapidly evolving cell and gene therapy market. The successful candidate will join a dynamic Applications team within Process Solutions R&D, specializing in upstream viral vector processing. This group is responsible for generating application data to address customer needs, enhance knowledge in the field, and demonstrate the performance of products and processes for Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) manufacturing. The scientist in this strategic lab-based position will independently manage experiments, execute studies, analyze data, and effectively communicate results. Collaboration is essential, as the role requires close interaction with a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders encompassing both internal teams and external partners.

 

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, or other Science discipline with 1+ year of experience in viral vector/gene therapy processing ORMaster’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, or other Science discipline

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in life science, chemical engineering, or related field with 5+ years industry experience in viral vector production and characterizationStrong expertise in upstream AAV, lentivirus, and/or other gene therapy production workflowsHands on experience with banking, aseptic technique, mammalian cell culture, transfection / infection, bioreactor operation, and harvest with a focus on AAV productionDemonstrated experience with viral vector production process development, scale-up/scale-down and tech transfer including hands-on expertise with scalable bio-production platforms and equipmentExposure to some of the following analytical techniques: qPCR/dPCR, ELISA-based assays, and Mass Photometry. Knowledge of downstream processing for viral vectors.Experience in statistical analysis, familiarity with design of experiment (DoE) approaches, and experimental designThe ability to work safely and efficiently in the lab, plan schedules and arrange own activities to accomplish objectives in a fast-paced environmentThe ability to work effectively in a team.Excellent verbal and written communication skills
