Description Are you a curious, creative and experienced Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) engineer? We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer with expertise in SD-WAN who is motivated to create solutions for the toughest national security challenges. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating and integrating SD-WAN technologies for our sponsors' networks. As an SD-WAN Engineer, you will be working with cutting-edge technology that requires hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and supporting SD-WAN solutions. Your expertise will be used to improve network performance, security, and reliability for our sponsors. You will be joining a team of engineers who look at wireless networks and network design and architecture to apply to our Government and Military sponsors. Design, implement, and evaluate SD-WAN solutions for large-scale networks to address Government and Military challenges. Support architecture development, integration, and testing prototypes in operationally-realistic environments, working closely with sponsors to ensure mission success. Work closely with other members of the network engineering team to ensure successful project delivery. Collaborate with our sponsors to understand their networking needs and provide tailored solutions. Document work in formal technical reports and informal memoranda. Present work to sponsors and the technical community. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies related to SD-WAN. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or another related field. Have at least five years of relevant experience in network engineering. Have demonstrated extensive experience with SD-WAN products from vendors such as Cisco Viptela, VMware VeloCloud, Juniper SSR, Silver Peak, or Fortinet. Are knowledgeable of current SDN implementations and its use in LAN, CAN, and datacenter environments. Have hands-on experience with routing protocols, such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP. Can demonstrate an in-depth understanding of network security concepts and technologies, such as firewalls, VPN, and IPS/IDS. Have knowledge of and experience with the data, network and transport layers of communication or networking systems, IPV4/6, TCP and other emerging protocols. Have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a multi-organizational team. Are highly skilled and have expertise with several of the following environments and tools: Linux, Unix, C, C++, Python, Java, MATLAB. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have a Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a focus in Communications, Networking or another related technical discipline. Have at least ten years of knowledge and experience in data networking and IP standards. Have experience with analysis or development of session and presentation layer software technologies. Have experience with development of and advocacy for technical standards in forums such as IETF, MEF, IEEE, or 3GPP. Have experience with US government and military communication and networking systems. Have experience with Project and/or Technical management of hardware, software, or systems integration teams. Have experience in applying Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence techniques to networking problems. Hold an active TS/SCI US Security clearance. Why work at APL? The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
