Seasonal Butterfly Keeper Print (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/boiseid/jobs/newprint/4819155) Apply  Seasonal Butterfly Keeper Salary $12.00 Hourly Location Boise, ID Job Type Temporary - 4 Month Job Number 23 -07032 Department Parks & Recreation Division Zoo Operations Opening Date 02/04/2025 Closing Date 2/25/2025 12:00 PM Mountain + Description + Benefits + Questions Summary Statement Zoo Boise Butterfly Keeper: + Provides customer service to patrons of the Butterflies in Bloom attraction at Zoo Boise. + Ensures the butterfly house is tidy and ready for visitors. + Works with keeper staff to care for the dietary, health, and environmental needs of pupae and butterflies in the exhibit. + This position is open to all interested persons aged 18 or above. + This position typically works 32 hours per week from May 18 - Sept 6. + This position is designated as At-Will. Essential Functions Informs and educates the public regarding the butterfly exhibit. Provides information and guidance to volunteers and zoo teens. Ensures volunteers, zoo teens, and customers adhere to exhibit rules and regulations. Maintains the butterfly house. Waters plants and disposes of any dead leaves per permitting requirements. Dispose of trash or any dead butterflies in the exhibit per permitting requirements. Sweeps pathways and cleans mirrors. Ensures fans, latches and mesh are in proper working order and reports any maintenance issues. Checks to ensure that the butterfly house mesh is secured daily. Mists and releases live butterflies daily. Processes shipments of new pupae including checking that the order is accurate, cleaning the emergence case and pinning pupae. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training High school diploma or GED. Working knowledge of customer service techniques. Ability to: work in varying outdoor conditions including rain and extreme cold and hot temperatures; stand for long periods of time; pay attention to detail; interact with the public and volunteers in a friendly and informative manner; communicate effectively in the English language (written and verbal) at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation. Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. This position works: 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
