In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Program Manager or designate, participates in developing, implementing and evaluating programs/services in accordance with the Vision and Mission statements of Island Health. Utilizing knowledge and clinical consultation and expertise, education and direction in the assigned clinical area, consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care givers. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice, provides consultation and advocacy regarding client needs to nurses, physicians, other program teams, community nurses, and other health care team staff regarding the care and treatment of patients/clients/residents within the specialty area. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Practice. Provides evidence based clinical care that is client focused and incorporates self-management techniques to patients in other units requiring burn and wound care. Assesses, plans, delivers, and evaluates the care needs of acute, chronic and palliative clients of all ages in the outpatient settings emphasizing independence and health promotion.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Graduation from a recognized nursing program with Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification for Nurses who specialize in Wound, Ostomy and Continence or completion of the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Program or Masters in Wound Healing. Three years recent related wound care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Related experience with wound/burn management, including chronic venous disease, venous leg ulcers, peripheral arterial disease, arterial ulcers, lower extremity neuropathic disease and diabetic foot ulcers. Experience, knowledge and skill of lower limb vascular and neuropathic clinical assessment,

Valid BC Driver's License.

Skills And AbilitiesAbility to integrate and apply BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice. Demonstrated knowledge of the current theories, technologies and practices in the specialty area. Demonstrated knowledge of child/adult education principles. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to organize workload and set priorities. Ability to work independently in an ambulatory clinic environment. Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and evaluate patient care needs to ensure patient demands are met. Ability to assess learning needs of people throughout the life cycle. Ability to teach using child/adult education principles. Ability to apply the principles of adult learning in individual and group settings. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families and with colleagues, both on a one-to-one basis and within an interdisciplinary team/group context. Ability to be empathetic and to relate well with people from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural environments. Demonstrate sound organizational, problem solving, and teaching skills. Demonstrate sound judgement, observation and patient assessment skills. Operate related equipment. Remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations.
