In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Working without general supervision, the Occupational Therapist works as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy services to Special Population clients residing within the Long-Term Care (LTC) facility, as well as their families and other stakeholders. Provides general Occupational Therapy clinical services to clients with a focus on behavioural strategies and interventions relevant to special populations, such as those with mental health and substance use conditions. Participates in the provision of education to the client, caregiver, service provider, public and other stakeholders related to Special Populations in the LTC environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). One to two years' experience working with Mental Health & Substance Use Services clients. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills And Abilities Ability to work independently, as a member of a team and with deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to network with other services and agencies. Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill and/or addicted client. Ability to write clear, concise reports. Ability to operate a computer including related software. Working knowledge of relevant legislature applicable - i.e. Mental Health Act, Guardianship Act. Link to Full Job Description
