In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Support Services, the Coordinator, Support Services is responsible for the local administration and human resource coordination of the Food, Laundry, and Housekeeping programs in the assigned location or geography. This position will have a matrix reporting structure with direct line reporting to the Managers of Environmental Support Services and Food Services to support both programs.

The Coordinator, Support Services oversees and supervises the effective and efficient delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable organizational standards, policies, practices and government and community regulations.

Together with the management for the programs overseen, the Coordinator, Support Services develops and implements short and long term departmental plans and objectives to ensure an efficient and effective operation in areas such as staffing, equipment and supplies. The Coordinator also identifies local client and patient requirements, service standards, and resources and systems to support these, conducting evaluations and implementing quality improvement practices.

Frequent travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience

Completion of a Degree in a related field plus 2-5 years' recent, related experience in a healthcare facility where expertise has been developed at the management level including experience supervising in a unionized environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Proficiency in current word processing, database and spreadsheet applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).

Valid BC Driver's License.

Skills And AbilitiesDemonstrated supervision, leadership and facilitation skills, and demonstrated ability to foster a respectful, motivating and supportive environment. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with organizational, provincial and federal Food Safe regulations, policies and requirements and the ability to coach staff on these requirements to ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients and clients. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to manage the fiscal resources of assigned programs/services in a manner that is fiscally responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization. Ability to apply professional written, verbal and presentation skills to effectively communicate concepts and ideas, and to lead, influence, and collaborate with a variety of partners both internal and external to the organization. Demonstrated leadership skills with emphasis on decision-making and problem solving including ability to assess and anticipate future issues and proactively respond with innovative options/solutions. Exercises considerable judgment, tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature. Ability to apply conflict management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate effective resolution of issues/disputes. Ability to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
