Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And ExperienceRegistration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Up to two (2) years recent, related experience depending on clinical setting.
Specialty unit nurse positions also require area specific specialty certification for the unit. Heart Health nurse positions also require demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge exam. Additional information for applicants This is a Substance Use Nursing Position in the Emergency Department (ED). Candidates must have a minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience in related areas, including assessing and providing care to adults and youth with substance use disorders in an acute care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience with withdrawal management, opioid agonist therapy (OAT), and crisis intervention is preferred. Candidates should also have a working knowledge of the biopsychosocial-spiritual model of care, substance use pharmacology, and best practices for co-occurring mental health conditions. Substance Use Registered Nurses (RNs) working in the ED provide direct care to patients living with substance use disorder, collaborating with an inter-professional team to ensure safe, evidence-based, and trauma-formed care. This role includes initial patient assessment, withdrawal management, direct nursing care, facilitating the initiation and maintenance of opioid agonist therapy (OAT) when appropriate, and connecting patients to hospital and community resources.
