We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape. Purpose
Coordinate delivery of stock/equipment and commodities to prevent downtime based on service-level agreements (SLA).
Your duties will include:
Prioritize safety and health in all team interactions, leading by example to achieve zero harm and prevent fatalities.Lead by example, fostering a safety-first culture.Encourage open reporting of unsafe behaviours without fear of consequences.Identify and address risks in the workplace using discipline-specific plans and operational risk management systems.Use operational risk management systems.Monitor critical control performance and integrate them into daily work practices.Establish and maintain Safety and Health systems within the work area.Evaluate safety leadership skills in direct reports.Ensure team members are fit for duty and address issues as needed.Conduct safety interactions, regular visual inspections, and workplace audits.Conduct physical safety checks and provide coaching.Gather data for safety reports and KPIs.Report and rectify deficiencies.Conduct regular safety audits to ensure compliance and address any issues.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Implement a Stock Planning Plan for essential imported items to ensure availability at all times.Refine and implement effective supply chain strategies to optimise logistics and transportation between the sites.Ensure a smooth flow of materials, equipment, and supplies to meet production and operational requirements.Collaborate with procurement teams to manage inventory levels and procurement schedules.Oversee the planning and execution of transportation logistics, including coordinating the movement of goods between the two sites.Coordinate delivery times according to service level agreements to meet deadlines and customer needs.Optimize transportation routes to minimise costs and enhance efficiency.Monitor and manage the fleet of vehicles used for transportation.Implement inventory control measures to track and manage stock levels at both sites.Work closely with warehouse and inventory teams to ensure accurate record-keeping and timely stock replenishment.Minimize excess stock and reduce the risk of stockouts.Lead and manage a team of logistics professionals, including supervisors, coordinators, and drivers.Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure the team operates efficiently.Foster a culture of safety and adherence to logistics procedures.Ensure compliance with relevant local, regional, and national transportation, safety, and logistics regulations.Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry best practices.Develop and manage the logistics budget for both sites.Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.Monitor and control transportation, storage, and logistics expenses.Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance logistics processes and reduce lead times.Analyse performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement.Establish effective communication channels between the two sites and relevant departments.Coordinate closely with other departments such as production, procurement, and maintenance to ensure seamless operations.Develop and implement contingency plans for potential disruptions to logistics operations.Ensure readiness for emergency responses related to transportation and logistics.Implement and utilise logistics and supply chain management systems to streamline processes and improve visibility.Stay updated on emerging technologies that can enhance logistics operations.Facilitate effective team leader and member processes to promote a purpose-led, high-performing culture aligned with company values. Lead day-to-day communications with teams and ensure discipline-specific systems and behaviours align with desired culture and Anglo American values. Act as a role model and encourage continuous improvement. Provide input for communication materials while understanding the operation's goals and directions.Guide team members to ensure their knowledge and skills match their roles. Address any gaps through coaching and development plans. Proactively manage the talent pipeline by conducting recruitment and communicating performance requirements to the team.
