Security Guard

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Security Guard in the department of Public Safety. These individuals will staff security points on campus and at various University sites. The Security Guard will interact with the University community in a positive, professional manner. One-two years' experience in the security field and Act 235 certification is preferred. Work schedule includes varied shifts and may include holidays, weekends, and overtime. Staffing security postings at on and off campus locations. Monitor all access and progress at site while on duty. Make safety tours of university buildings and grounds. Provides appropriate assistance, information and direction as needed based upon situation. Recognizes and reports safety hazards. Identifies, assesses, and reports suspicious persons/ activities and trends; initiated appropriate action.

Must be responsive to students and employee needs. Have the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.

Must maintain a current schedule of locking and opening University buildings and property. Interacts appropriately with all persons in a courteous, fair, and respectful manner. Actively and continuously monitors and evaluates all activity in assigned areas.

Operate electronic computer security devices, respond to security alarms, and operate alarm security systems.

Has working knowledge of all security alarm systems, computer systems and various communication devices.
