At UPMC Presbyterian, our Security Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff all equally alike. As an Officer, you will accomplish this through regular patrols around the grounds, staffing fixed posts, and responding to and resolving problems and/or disputes. Customer service is at the core of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid and current driver’s license.
Schedules within this department rotate and include both weekends and holidays and shifts vary from daylight, afternoon, and night. Additionally, this role is eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment to UPMC!
Responsibilities:
Handle calls for security assistance in an appropriate manner, requiring a strong skill set in crisis management and de-escalation techniques. Deal with patients who are victims of violence such as gunshot wounds stabbings, physical assault, etc., and the aftermath of follow-up violence that can occur in the hospital. Release bodies from the Morgue and enter information into Remains Tracker software. Respond to incoming air ambulances and assist with offloading trauma patients and medical equipment, escort flight crew and patient from Helipad to Presbyterian ED, perform fire suppression detail on the heliport and undergo annual Helicopter Safety training. Deal with a high volume of security incident reports, including reports of high complexity, on a regular basis. Handle evidence that will be used in criminal proceedings appropriately. Appropriately handle a high volume of evidence where the chain of custody has to be well documented and preserved, including bullet fragments, rape kits, blood clothes, drugs, weapons. Responds to and resolves problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as necessary. Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details. Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards.
