Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Full-time, Day Shift, Security Officer. 

This is a Full-time, Day Shift (6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) position with great benefits in Norfolk, VA!

Requirements:

Driver’s License RequiredHigh School Grad or Equivalent RequiredFormer military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.Certified Healthcare Security Officer, Handle with Care Cert RequiredDe-escalation and Physical Intervention training successfully completed within 180 days of hire. Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) must be successfully obtained within 90 days of hire.Required: Active Listening, Communication, Critical Thinking, Judgment and Decision Making, Microsoft Office, Service Orientation, Speaking, Writing 

To bolster safety and security for our patients and team members, Sentara has implemented a Fit for Duty assessment to ensure that our officers meet a minimum standard of fitness. 

The four-part assessment includes a response walk, a stair climb, a drag to safety and a lift. All prospective security officer candidates must pass the FFD assessment, which will be administered by the respective hiring/security leader & Employee Health prior to being offered a position.

Position Overview:

The Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free-standing Emergency Departments.

The Security Officer actively patrols campus and monitors activity in and around buildings and grounds and responds appropriately to routine and emergency situations. This individual performs camera surveillance, maintains department logs and records, uses computer skills for documentation of daily activities, conducts security investigations, evaluates situations, and takes appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

De-escalation and Physical Intervention training successfully completed within 180 days of hire. Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) must be successfully obtained within 90 days of hire. Former military, law enforcement or security officer experience preferred.
