Job Summary

The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.
This position has an anticipated work schedule of:
Monday – Friday:
6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
11:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Provides professional safety and security services to County and/or City facilities, grounds, parks, property, and personnel. Upholds and enforces Local and State laws pertaining to County and/or City security. May be assigned to any County or City location.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
+ Patrols County and/or City buildings and property for fire, safety, and security violations on foot or by motor vehicle ensuring the safety and security of the public and personnel; conducts searches of individuals.
+ Performs self-defense and arrest control techniques as needed. May be required to pursue fleeing suspects on foot; effects forceful detainment as required.
+ Reports and investigates incidents on County and/or City property.
+ Ensures that County and/or City buildings are secured and locked.
+ Monitors, sets, and responds to burglar and fire alarm systems.
+ Monitors and controls vehicle traffic at County and/or City lots and facilities; maintains flag procedures.
+ Writes accurate, detailed reports. Logs security information, including calls for service and other required information; maintains accurate logs and related documents.
+ Transports evidence and presents testimony in court when necessary.
+ Provides protection for County, City and State officials, special events, data processing operations, County, City and District Court operations, election return process, and other related activities.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
+ Knowledge of State and Local laws, including officer authority, search and seizure, use of force, civil rights, and drug and weapons violations as well as enforcement techniques, equipment, and procedures.
+ Knowledge of and experience with common radio equipment and communications procedures.
+ Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
+ Must possess good judgment and common sense to make competent decisions, as well as prioritize duties under stressful conditions.
+ Ability to affect detainment and control the person being taken into custody; ability to qualify with assigned weapon system in a safe manner in compliance with policy and procedure; ability to meet the physical demands of the position by maintaining physical condition and fitness; ability to exert 175 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently to carry, push, pull, or move objects; ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, feel, finger, talk, smell, hear, possess normal color vision, and see (20/20 correctable, depth perception, and near and far acuity) ability to accurately determine suspicious objects.
+ Must be able to use and determine the appropriate use of physical and deadly force when required.
+ Ability to hear and speak clearly on a radio.
+ Ability to write and type accurate, clear, concise, and complete reports, records, and other documents.
+ Ability to act quickly and decisively in stressful situations.
+ Ability to maintain positive interaction with the public, staff, employees, and public safety personnel, in a courteous and professional manner.
+ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and possess a high level of attention to detail.
+ Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent education.
Preferred Education and Experience:
+ One year of law enforcement, security, or military experience.
+ Experience as a security officer using screening techniques and electronic screening equipment, such as x-ray and metal detection equipment.
Licenses/Certificates:
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
+ Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
+ CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
+ Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, physical examination, and psychological evaluation. Color vision testing is required.
Work Conditions
Duties are performed on foot and in a motor vehicle; may be exposed to inclement weather. Must be able to stand, climb, walk, run, bend, and jump for extended periods of time. May require physical contact of a combative nature for self-defense. May be exposed to potentially hazardous and life-threatening situations. May require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts on short notice. Subject to call out at any time.
