**GENERAL SUMMARY:**
The Security Officer is often is the first and last hospital employee interacting with the public. Working under the direction of the Lead Officer in Charge , the Security Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas and for observing signs of unauthorized entry and compromises to safety within and around the facility. The Security Officer will take instruction from the Lead Officer and will respond to all orders given by legitimate authorities of St. Mary Hospital, provided they do not violate the law, or place another person in danger. The Security Officer will at all times demonstrate excellent public relations and social skills to all persons encountered.
Six to twelve months related experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree preferred. Military Police, or professional Police Officer training, or Certification desirable. Previous jobs relating to Security (i.e. Police, Military, Security, etc.) desirable. Basic Knowledge of Security function, Health Care specific, desirable. Must gain familiarity with the hospital organization, policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and fire suppression equipment. Must demonstrate leadership abilities. Must be personable, polite, helpful, even tempered, and possess good verbal skills. Must be able to function professionally under stressful circumstances including communicating with upset, disturbed and confused persons. CPR Certified within 6 months of hire date. Modified CPI Training within 6 months of hire date.
