The Security Officer undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property. **Responsibilities** **Physical Environment of Care** + Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. + Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises. + Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed. + Screen visitors, patients and team members at entrances. + Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations. **Departmental Support** + Complete incident report on any significant security incident or concern, relays safety related information as appropriate. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements** Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position. **Preferred or Specialized** Not required to perform the essential functions of the position. **Education:** High School diploma or highest level of post-secondary education. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice law enforcement **Experience:** Military, law enforcement and/or security experience is highly preferred. **License(s)/Certification(s):** Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. **Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:** Ability to de-escalate violent, aggressive, or disruptive persons. Use of critical thinking in a high stress environment. Excellent observation skills. **Other:** Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
