Security Operations Specialist

Responsible for performing all duties associated with the operations of the Security Control Room. Provides institution-wide flawless customer service, and operator/receptionist services using the master operator console, paging system, and communication system. Communicates efficiently and provides team support to co-workers to meet the departmental demands. Strives to accomplish accuracy when administrating emergency responses. Monitors multiples cameras to identify threats to the employees, patients and visitors. Responds to request for service or assistance and dispatches appropriate personnel. Job Responsibilities: List any requirements unique to this position in this department. Answers telephones, radio calls and other requests for service. Provides optimal customer service, delivering information, and assistance to callers as necessary; determines the needs of the caller in order to provide the appropriate referral and basic hospital information. Questions callers to determine the nature of the call and transfer to the appropriate party. Determines response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatches emergency response parties in accordance with established procedures. Records details of emergency calls, dispatches and takes messages if needed. Receives emergency and non-emergency incoming telephone or alarm system calls from throughout the hospital. Provides institution-wide operator services using the master operator console, paging system and communication system. Coordinate and document emergency response for threats, alerts, nature disasters, violent and other activities. Initiates SJ alerts to quickly and effectively disseminate important information to employees during emergencies, disasters and other time-sensitive events. Makes announcements over hospital speaking/paging system relative to meetings, emergency condition (Dr. Red, etc.) while speaking clearly and distinctly. Relays information and messages to co-workers regarding emergencies and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification. Initiates calls for patient related emergencies to the Harvey Team and Rapid Response. Coordinates the responses for patient related emergencies for Dr. Child, After Hours CT Scan, International Calls, and Overnight Calls. Initiates calls for non-patient related emergencies for Dr. Red, Bomb Threats, and Hazardous Waste. Coordinates the responses for non-patient related emergencies for 911 calls and incident command. Pages hospital staff for incoming calls or messages left with operators, emergency codes and situations, and requests to call internal departments or personnel. Pages hospital staff for visitors in hospital lobby. Observes alarm registers such as the medical gas system to determine a specific location for the emergency in order to relate the information to the emergency response team. Dispatch officers to various locations and documents all activities in the Control Room Daily Dispatch Log. Monitors Lenel OnGuard System for various alarms to include panic alarms, forced and propped door alarms, and irradiator alarms. Dispatch appropriate personnel on alarm activation and document all alarms. Monitor CCTV equipment for suspicious activity and notify appropriate personnel as needed. Answers and monitor Stentofon intercoms located throughout the campus to assist employees and visitors. Maintains Call Books for the entire institution, including call roster schedules, emergency numbers, and personnel lists. Maintains proficiency with PBX Operating System software. Learns and utilizes scripts and is able to identify opportunities for improvement in scripts. Maintains proficiency with institution wide phonebook system. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: State the minimum education and/or training required. High School/GED Minimum Experience: State the minimum years of experience required to do this job successfully. Two years of prior of experience in a security program, police organization, military branch, conflict counseling, or pbx operator experience is required. Must be able to type 25 WPM. Prior experience in a security in control room/or dispatching is preferred. Demonstrated experience acting as a communication specialist during emergency situations is preferred (Fire, Severe Weather, 911 Calls, etc.) Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law: List any licensure or certification REQUIRED and/or PREFERRED by federal or state law to do the job. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Successfully complete a physical/health screening examination by Occupational Health, which includes a drug screening; successfully meet and maintain Campus Safety and Security physical requirements. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and officers must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must maintain the ability to move about the workspace to access work surface and shelves, cabinets, drawers, and equipment that are at, below or above the work surface. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
