Security Police Officer
Summary The Security Police Officer provides first response to emergencies; enforcing federal law and assimilated state law; conducting mobile patrols, inspections and searches; conducting traffic enforcement and traffic investigations; initiating an arrest and transporting persons; perform protective service work such as guarding NASA owned or leased buildings and property; protecting NASA equipment and material; controlling access to NASA installations by employees, visitors, and residents; and other duties as assigned. The SPO is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required. ALL positions begin as Part-Time with the option to bid on a full-time position when one becomes available. Responsibilities • Will participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy any extra instructions.  • Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned.  • Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders.  • Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel.  • Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions.  • Will be responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned.  • Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment.  • Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections.  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.  • As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a disaster or declared emergency.  • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. Preferred 1 year military or law enforcement experience. NBTS required prior to standing an armed post. ICS-100 required prior to appointment. ICS-200 required prior to appointment. IS-700 IS-800 Honorably discharged (If Applicable). Possession of a Diploma or certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency; or military services recognized basic law enforcement or physical security training academy preferred, but not required. Must be able to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Current First Aid/CPR or BLS certification. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) if serving in Patrol position. Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start.
