SECURITY SPECIALIST (PROTECTION)
Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SECURITY SPECIALIST (PROTECTION), Position Description Number T0008P01 and is part of the OPERATIONS AND TRAINING, National Guard. This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants. Veterans' preference does not apply to this vacancy due to internal merit promotion. Responsibilities As a SECURITY SPECIALIST (PROTECTION), GS-0080-09, you will serve as the Protection Specialist for the Army National Guard and as a point of contact on criminal intelligence matters. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7. Knowledge of a wide range of security specialties to include physical, personal, and operational security to identify and resolve conflicting and complex policy and program objectives, and procedures within the security functional area- Knowledge in the specialized field of protection functional areas including antiterrorism, and physical and operations security- Working knowledge of information operation security to review classified material- Working knowledge of protection construction standards to assess and sign off on installation construction projects- Ability to articulate effectively and provide advice and recommendations to supervisors and other security experts or groups at higher and lower echelons- Ability to utilize a computer to write reports, access the internet to research intelligence reports and current, world events, and to maintain the MARMS. Education If using education to qualify for this position, master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. You must provide OFFICIAL transcripts as documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position. Additional Information If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency (Register | Selective Service System : Selective Service System (sss.gov)). Superior Qualifications and Special Needs Pay-setting Authority may be considered for this position. TAG is final approval authority for incentive programs (applicable to newly appointed federal employees or those with a 90 day break in service). This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by TAG.
