Job Duties
Communication demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills evident in reports, correspondence, and presentations. Ensures staff are informed about Medical Center and departmental priorities. Professional Development actively participates in conferences, workshops, and other professional development activities to maintain licensure and stay updated with advancements in the field. Staff Development ensures staff receive mandated in-service in Safety, Quality Improvement, Risk Management, Customer Service, Infection Control, and relevant areas. Provides mentorship and direction to security staff, fostering a safe and productive work environment, while showing empathy and support. Problem Solving: Utilizes strong analytical skills to make recommendations and decisions that prioritize safety, quality, cost containment, and consider impacts on other departments. Customer Service Management integrates Medical Center's Customer Service goals into departmental policies and systems, ensuring exceptional service delivery and customer satisfaction through empathy and de-escalation skills as needed. Project Management collaborates effectively in multidisciplinary teams and committees to facilitate diverse perspectives and ensure timely project completion. Participates in hiring and disciplinary actions, including terminations, and conducts annual performance appraisals, recommending promotions and raises Orients and trains new employees in department operations, ensuring thorough understanding and compliance with procedures. Supervises Security Guards to ensure adherence to departmental and hospital policies, conducting regular visits to posts. Reports instances of dereliction of duty or misconduct by Security Guards to the Security Manager, following up on complaints and incidents with proper documentation. Coordinates shift assignments, meal periods, and coverage for breaks, providing coverage as needed. Consults with outgoing supervisors regarding prior incidents or developments at the start of shifts. Conducts and participates in facility fire drills, ensuring staff are educated and documentation is completed accurately and promptly submitted. Performs periodic inspections as directed by the Director of Security. Assumes command in the absence of the Security Manager, promptly notifying the Supervisor, Director, and the ADNs of any unusual occurrences. Upholds Customer Service standards by demonstrating respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, a pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness in all interactions. Maintains departmental policies, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; identifies and addresses policy gaps as necessary. Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and familiarizes oneself with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements
Other Duties
Executes traditional responsibilities of a Security Guard as required or directed by the Director. Undertakes any other relevant duties as assigned as required or directed by the Director or Security Manager. Must be physically fit to perform personal protective maneuvers, stand for extended periods, and lift items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Position Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of institutional experience required, with proficiency in investigatory procedures and documenting investigation findings effectively. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal abilities. Proficiency in spoken and written English as necessary for the role. Valid driver’s license required. American Heart Association Heartsaver preferred.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Education in security enforcement, administration or management preferred.
Job Setting/Physical Demands
All areas of the Medical Center, including contact with staff, patients, families, and outside agencies. Occasional prolonged walking/standing. Subject to varying, unpredictable, and hazardous situations when investigating incidents. May handle crises or emergency situations. Subject to working in various weather conditions. Subject to heavy lifting.
