Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. This is a Department of Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level. WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 80 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are occasional discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve occasional exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as oils and cleaning solutions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six (6) months of working experience LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2). PREFERENCES Preference will be given to applicants with High School Diploma or GED. **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
