Senior Academic Advisor - School of Business (HEa) **POSITION DETAILS** Lehman College, of The City University of New York, ranks among the top five institutions in the nation for fostering social mobility. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of the School of Business and work closely with other academic advising staff. Key Responsibilities include: • Track and provide comprehensive major advising to a large and diverse group of School of Business undergraduate economics, business, and accounting students: o Ensure students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt academic counseling services; coordinates these efforts with appropriate academic departments o Assist students in course selection and long-range planning for their major in coordination with their career goals and ensure that students are engaged and knowledgeable about their career development. o Provide permission to take selected courses o Use discretion and judgment to allow students to override course prerequisites as needed o Monitor and enforce departmental/school policy on class size • Monitor students' performances, refer students to support services as needed, and take appropriate action if necessary; resolve students' problems regarding curricular requirements • Monitor academic progress and evaluate undergraduate transfer credits • Assists students with foreign credentials and transcripts to obtain appropriate transfer credit • Develop academic plans and perform graduation audits; calculate Departmental GPAs for students to ensure compliance with department policies and graduation requirements. Use the Departmental GPAs to determine what students are eligible to receive departmental academic honors and scholarship awards • Approve e-permits for students taking classes at other campuses within the University • Represent the School at Open House and student orientation events • Assist the Chairpersons with academic exceptions in conjunction with the Academic Appeals Office. • Attend Department and School of Business meetings and retreats to stay informed about all school program changes. • Establish and maintain student advisement records • Prepares activity reports and analyses • May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed • May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff • Performs related duties as assigned. **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population. - Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students - Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses - Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements - Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits - Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines - Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling - Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses - May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed - May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling - May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff - Performs related duties as assigned.
