As a Senior Test Engineer – Accessibility supporting Federal contracts in the Technology Shared Services (TSS) ACICS (Applications, Cloud, Infrastructure, and Cyber Solutions) Team, you will be trusted to evaluate and support development of Section 508 compliant software, web, mobile applications, and documentation.
As a member of our accessibility team, you will utilize your wealth of experience to train development teams to produce accessible code. You will work across programs to ensure that the documents and media they produce meet the needs of a diverse set of users. You will develop subject matter expertise in technical requirements for Federal accessibility regulations, such as the U.S. Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), to ensure that applications produced by GDIT client teams meet or exceed those requirements. You will be an advocate for technology solutions that support inclusion within GDIT and with our client agencies.
This role will be performed remotely.
How An Accessibility Engineer Will Make An Impact:
Evaluate software, web, and mobile application user interfaces (UI) for Section 508 complianceProduce clearly written, specific, actionable recommendations for remediation of accessibility issuesProvide accessibility oversight in the UI planning and design processWork with client teams to triage changes that may have an accessibility impactDevelop accessibility test plans and test casesRemediate electronic documents in common formats (MS Office, PDF)Advocate for processes that support mature accessibility practices in TSS ACICS client programsAssess and write Accessibility Conformance Reports for applications developed by vendors and internal teams using the Voluntary Product Assessment Template (VPAT)Use accessibility testing software, such as the Accessibility Management Platform (AMP), ANDI, Axe DevTools, Accessibility Insights, Color Contrast Analyzer, Microsoft Inspect, and/or Oracle Java Access InspectorCollaborate and coordinate with Section 508 teams at client agenciesWork with application vendors to identify accessibility issues and promote remediationUS CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIREDWhat An Accessibility Engineer Will Need To Succeed:
Bachelor’s Degree in areas applicable to the job description (or equivalent years of experience)5 years of relevant experience in Software Testing, UI/UX, Usability, Accessibility/Section 508, or some combination thereofStrong communication skills, including the ability to create detailed, clear narrative reports and communicate recommendations in plain languageExperience implementing Section 508 compliance requirements for applications, media and electronic documentsExperience with use of assistive technology for personal use or validationKnowledge of accessible design practices and effective incorporation of accessibility into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)Demonstrated ability to work effectively with subject matter experts to conduct research, resolve issues, and develop recommendations.Preferred qualifications:
Working understanding of agile methodologiesStrong work ethic and interest in developing new skills on the jobGood work product and project-task management experienceAbility to work independently and collaboratively with minimal oversightExperience with organizations providing technology solutions or services to the disability communityExperience with training, technical writing or other areas that demonstrate experience with user-facing communications.The following certifications, or a combination thereof, are preferred:
