Senior Accountant – Derivative Accounting (Hybrid Schedule)

Position Description

Primary purpose:

To support Corporate Accounting with broad responsibilities for Derivative and Hedge Accounting, ensuring all transactions are accounted for in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Perform month end accounting close requirements including preparing and booking journal entries.Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts; identify and timely resolve any reconciling items.Analyze financial information; recognize and report on significant variances, trends, and irregularities.Prepare quarterly (10-Q) and year end (10-K) disclosures in accordance with ASC 815 and ASC 820.Ensure compliance with internal controls and other requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).Coordinate and maintain support for internal and external auditors.Liaison with the Financial Reporting, Risk Management, Segment Accounting and Commercial groups.Create and maintain productive working relationships with internal customers.Interface with all levels of management to obtain information necessary to complete duties.Act as a backup to other team members.Work on special projects as needed.

 

Position Requirements

Education and Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in accountingCertified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus

Experience:

Minimum of 3+ years in an Accounting-related positionGeneral understanding of the energy industry and familiarity with industry terminologyFamiliarity with gas & oil commodity derivatives and interest rate derivativesPublic accounting experience a plusExperience with commodity trading risk management system a plus (e.g., Allegro, Triple Point)

Strong analytical skills with ability to work and issue and identify a solutionPossess high attention to detailPractical knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley (SOX)Independent worker with good organizational skillsHighly competent with Microsoft ExcelAbility to manage multiple projects with competing deadlinesAbility to work in a team environmentProven communication skills, oral and written, with ability to communicate with a variety of individuals and personalities at all levels internally and outside the organization
