Senior Accountant

Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting in closing the books, reconciling accounts, and assisting in preparing consolidated financial statements and operating reports in an accurate and timely manner.

Essential Functions:

Prepare journal entries in accordance with GAAP as part of the closing function Assist in maintaining the general ledger system Understand and assist with sub-system interfacing to the general ledger system Processes monthly and year-end closings Reconcile accounts assigned on a timely basis Prepares, reviews, and analyzes various financial and statistical reporting Provide back-up support for various accounting functions, as assigned Assists Operations staff with various accounting related matters regarding inventory, accounts payable and other financially related topics. Assist with auditors by providing accounting records and other source data preparatory to external audits/requests for information. Assist with various statutory filings – unclaimed property, retail gas reporting and additional accounting requirements

Other Tasks:

Performs other work-related duties and project assistance as assigned.

Education:

A Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business Administration or a related field is required.

Experience:

Experience working with an automated general ledger/business enterprise system is required Audit cycle experience preferred Knowledge of GAAP

Contacts: 

There is frequent communication with all DRC employees, especially Region, Market and Department Managers, Treasury and Accounting Department personnel. In addition, there will be frequent contact with auditors during the audit.

Equipment used in this position includes a calculator, networked personal computer, various printers, photocopiers, fax machine, and telephone

Decisions Made:

Resolves problems and issues presented by accounting or district personnel regarding proper treatment of items in any of the accounting subsystems.

Safety Considerations:

Safety considerations relate to proper ergonomics in an office setting.

Work Environment:

All work is performed in an office setting with controlled temperature and lighting.

Occasional travel is required.

Physical Requirements Analysis:

This position requires frequent sitting, standing, reading, calculating, moving of fingers, data entry and communication. Occasional driving will be expected across the company footprint.

Weight or Force Moved:

There is seldom a need to lift or move objects weighing more than ten pounds. Assistance is available for lifting or moving heavy objects.
